Stuttgart have emerged as new favourites to land in-demand Turkish international Yildiray Basturk.
The diminutive midfielder has so far refused to extend his expiring contract with Hertha Berlin and it is widely expected that the 28-year-old will use the chance to leave the Olympic Stadium this summer as a free agent.
Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen, Schalke and Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray were linked with the gifted playmaker in the past, but now it seems as if Stuttgart have the best chance to land his signature.
Stuttgart's director of sport Horst Heldt confirmed that the club had opened talks with the player about a summer move to the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium.
Ç£The talks went really well and look promising,Ç¥ Heldt told Bild.
Stuttgart have surprised all their critics this season with a strong showing in the Bundesliga and coach Armin Veh wants to add some experienced players as his young squad prepares for a campaign in Europe next season.
Basturk, who is currently sidelined by a groin problem, sealed his Bundesliga breakthrough with unfashionable Bochum and later impressed at Bayer Leverkusen before joining Hertha Berlin in 2004.
