FSV Mainz have taken goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum on trial in a bid to try and solve their injury crisis between the sticks.
The Bundesliga club have been given special dispensation to sign a new goalkeeper outside of the transfer window after losing all three first-team shot-stoppers to injury.
Already without No.1 Dimo Wache, Mainz lost both stand-in keepers in the 2-0 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach with Heinz Muller forced off with an abdominal problem and his replacement, Christian Wetklo, leaving the pitch with heavy bruising to his leg.
All three are not expected to be fit for the club's next league fixture in 10 days' time so general manager Christian Heidel has turned to the unattached Kirschbaum, whose most recent club was FC Vaduz of Liechtenstein in the Swiss top flight.
"We want to prepare ourselves, actually we do not know if we are in the need to sign a new goalkeeper," Heidel told Mainzer Allgemeine Zeitung.
"Still we want to be in the position to do so, if needed."
