Materazzi returned to Perugia in a £3 million deal after only a year at Goodison Park in July 1999. The 27-year-old ace was bought to Merseyside for £2.8 million and made 32 appearances for Walter Smith's side scoring once.
It follows news of a possible swoop for Sol Campbell by the Bavaria club who were rumoured to be weighing up an £80,000 per week tax-free deal to tempt the England international to Germany.
Bayern managing director Uli Hoeness admitted the club were going to make a number of summer signings to boost the 1999 Champions League finalists, some of which would surprise people.
