Rummenigge claimed that Bayern would "never go that far" following Bayer Leverkusen's £7 million acquisition of Czech Republic international Tomas Rosicky three weeks ago.
But Beckenbauer has stated the club would be prepared to make a major purchase, but only if the terms were right.
"We're ready to spend more than £15 million to sign a superstar next season," the German legend said.
"The player we sign must be the right one. We must be 100 percent sure he fits in our system.
"We won't tolerate those player agents who run from one club to the other only to get more money."
It is believed the 1999 Champions League runners-up are keen to bolster their defence, with Tottenham's Sol Campbell high on their shortlist.
But Campbell would not command a fee if he was to leave White Hart Lane at the end of the season as his contract expires and he will become a free agent.
Former Everton ace Marco Materazzi has also been linked with a move to The Olympiastadion.
