Bixente Lizarazu is staying with Bayern Munich after an injury to Philipp Lahm.German international Philipp Lahm faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he tore crucial ligaments in his right knee and will be unable to represent his country at the FIFA Confederations Cup which will start next month.
The talented left-back, who had only just returned to full fitness after breaking his foot earlier this season, complained about heavy pain during a training session with Stuttgart, where he is on loan, on Tuesday.
The player had to be rushed into a nearby hospital for a medical check-up, where doctors found out about the seriousness of his knee problem.
Lahm, who was set to return to Bayern Munich over the summer after completing a two-year loan spell with Stuttgart, will now be sidelined for a minimum of six months.
Bayern Munich reacted quickly to the bad news and announced that French veteran Bixente Lizarazu has signed a new one-year contract which ties him to the club until 2006.
