Bayern Munich's German international Philipp Lahm has agreed a contract extension.
Bayern Munich's German international Philipp Lahm has agreed a contract extension tying him to the Allianz Arena side until 2009.
The 21-year-old forged a reputation for himself during a two-year loan spell with Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart and returned to Bayern during the summer.
Bayern's offer of a new deal will come as a timely boost for the defender, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury towards the end of last season and will not figure again until November.
Upon his return from injury, the player will be looking to challenge veteran Bixente Lizarazu and Lahm is delighted with the terms of his new deal.
He told Bild: "That's huge proof that the club believes in me, despite my injury, and it gives me plenty of motivation."
The youngster is expected to have a big future in the game and many view him as Germany's most talented left back since Andreas Brehme.
Lahm will now hope to regain match fitness as quickly as possible and force his way into Jurgen Klinsmann's reckoning for the 2006 World Cup.
