Schalke defender Rafinha has admitted that transfer rumours regarding his future over the summer drove him mad.
The Brazilian was linked with a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich but in the end a deal failed to materialise.
The speculation affected the 24-year-old so much that he was granted a return to his homeland to allow time for him to clear his head.
The full-back has now returned from his break but is still expected to leave the club in January.
"There were a lot of people coming up in August and all were talking to me about the things I need to do," he told Sport-Bild.
"This was a situation I was not prepared for, this situation was like a snowball for me. Pretty much unbelievable, this made me become mad.
"There were about 50 people giving me a direct phone call and not a single person of these 50 people has ever told me the truth.
"There was nothing serious regarding their statements. This was pretty shocking to me and I hardly slept for more than three hours sometimes.
"My head was full of some promises and I was getting anxious, too. There were times when I just cried."
Rafinha thanked Schalke manager Felix Magath for his understanding over the incident and for giving him permission for the player to return to Brazil.
"I am thankful for the support handed to me by Mr Magath," he added.
"The manager and I have an agreement (regarding the winter transfer window), but this does not mean I am not here with all of my heart.
"I may leave, I may stay. I just told Mr Magath that basically I would like to move on. But we never talked about a concrete deal at all."
