Bayer Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller believes the club should try and keep hold of Toni Kroos after his loan expires at the end of the season.
The highly rated midfielder is on loan from Bayern Munich having joined the club last January with first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Allianz Arena.
The 19-year-old has flourished under the guidance of manager Jupp Heynckes this term, helping Leverkusen to top the table following their unbeaten start to the season.
Leverkusen will have a fight on their hands if they are to prize Kroos away from Bayern with the German giants likely to want to keep hold of the youngster.
"The fact is he has to return (to Bayern) next summer," Voller told
Rheinische Post.
"The final decision is, however, delayed until next spring, though we will have more chats about this."
Meanwhile, Kroos added that his future was out of his hands: "It is not important whether I want to remain with Bayer Leverkusen.
"If Bayern Munich wants me back then, I will have to return to the club. There has not been any decision made, I know that for sure."
