Germany coach assures striker of his World Cup place

Germany coach Joachim Low has assured struggling striker Lukas Podolski that he will definitely be in his World Cup squad. Low recently indicated that he would only choose players who are in form and playing regularly for their club for this summer's finals. But the coach is set is to make an exception with Podolski, who has only scored once since re-joining his home-town club Cologne from Bayern Munich in July. Low believes the striker's goalscoring record with Germany speaks for itself - he has netted 37 times in 69 games - and insists Podolski has the temperament to perform consistently at the highest level.

Not afraid

The national team boss told Cologne's Express newspaper: "There are no doubts at all about his status as a national team player. "His goalscoring record with us is noteworthy. "He is cheeky and is not afraid. In the national team, he nearly always plays well. "Even against top nations, he never shows any nerves and he performs excellently."
Kroos
But Low revealed that Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Toni Kroos still has work to do to convince him of his suitability for a place on the plane to South Africa. Low added: "He has developed a lot, but we will have to see whether that is enough for South Africa. "I will wait to see what the second half of the season brings. We have taken note of his good performances in the first half of the season and with the under-21s."
