Look back on Arsenal's road to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League as they prepare to face Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening

Last Updated: 19/02/13 8:44am

Arsenal will bid to extend their UEFA Champions League run by overcoming Bayern Munich when they host the four-time winners in the first leg of their last 16 tie on Tuesday night.

They enter the knockout phrase on the back of a group campaign which saw them finish second in their pool behind Schalke.

Arsene Wenger's men saw off the threat of Greek side Olympiakos and French outfit Montpellier to clinch the second qualifying spot.

The road to the last 16 was full of ups and downs for the North Londoners as they won three, lost two and drew their other Group B game.

Schalke proved a particular stumbling block for the Gunners, with the German side beating them 2-0 at the Emirates before holding them to a 2-2 draw on home soil.

Wenger's men were more successful against Montpellier, however, as goals from Lukas Podolski and Gervinho handed them a 2-1 win in the South of France.

The return leg then saw Podolski strike again as he and Jack Wilshere condemned the Ligue 1 side to a 2-0 defeat.

Arsenal had mixed luck against Olympiakos, beating them 3-1 at home as Podolski and Gervinho both hit home, while Aaron Ramsey completed the win with a classy finish late on.

But the Premier League side suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat in Greece after already qualifying, missing the chance to top their pool.
