The Bundesliga giants confirmed that the France winger is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks after undergoing "minor" surgery on a burst blood vessel in his buttock.

The 30-year-old had the operation last Thursday, and tests on Monday have revealed the procedure had been successful in removing bruising which had been affecting a nerve.

Ribery is scheduled to return to training next week and will miss the first leg of the last 16 showdown at the Emirates on Wednesday.

But he is likely to have recovered from his unusual ailment in time for the return in Munich on March 11.

A statement issued by the reigning European champions read: "An examination on Monday revealed that the bruise, which had pressed on a nerve, was completely removed by surgery last Thursday.

"After healing, the 30-year-old is scheduled to begin exercise therapy later this week and, a week later, he will return to running training.

"Therefore Ribery will miss the next games, among them the last-16 tie at Arsenal in the Champions League."

Ribery has been in excellent form for the runaway Bundesliga leaders this season, and his performances were recognised when he made the three-player shortlist for the Ballon d'Or earlier this year.
