Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is determined to reach the final of the UEFA Champions League this season.

The German club will begin their European campaign with a home game against Premier League champions Manchester City in Group E on Wednesday.

Neuer won Europe’s premier club competition with Bayern at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2013 and wants to repeat the feat at the Olympiastadion in the German capital of Berlin in June 2015.

“The Bundesliga and the cup are the basics” he told The Daily Mail. ‘But this season we have the chance to play two finals in Berlin. Everybody wants that. It’s a great thing to play a final in your capital city.”

Neuer is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and was a star for Germany in their 2014 World Cup triumph in the summer.

The 28-year-old’s ‘sweeper-keeper' abilities in Brazil left many astounded, and he has now revealed what makes his game special and different from other goalkeepers.

“A keeper has to adjust his game to the team,” said Neuer. “If the team moves further up, he has to do the same. It’s nothing I’ve invented.

“It is something that comes naturally. Everybody knows I like it and I can somehow deliver that style. But, again, it all happens because the coach wants to play a certain way and it is better for the team.

“I have always been interested in finding new ways to play and have looked at handball keepers and ice hockey goal-minders. It helps me.”
