Reiner Calmund, the Bayer general manager, has been in talks with the Sao Paulo striking ace and if all goes according to plan the samba star will arrive at the BayArena during the winter break.
With veteran target-man Ulf Kirsten poised to hang up his boots at the end of the campaign, Leverkusen are keen to get a top-class replacement in as soon as possible.
Brazilian pair Lucio and Ze Roberto are already on Bayer's books and coach Klaus Toppmoller will hope that 25-year-old Franca can be as successful as the aforementioned duo.
Borussia Dortmund, Lazio and Milan have all been linked with Franca in the past but Bayer are favourites for the player with their reputation of developing young Brazilians.
