The struggling club moved another step closer to relegation following their unfortunate 2-1 defeat at Bochum and it was widely expected that Toppmoller would be fired, especially after he failed to attend Sunday's training session.
However, Calmund stated that the coach missed training due to a heavy bout of flu and revealed that he would be back in charge for Leverkusen's next Bundesliga tie at home to Hansa Rostock.
"It would be unfair to blame Toppmoller for Saturday's defeat and we decided that he'll be on the bench when we face Rostock," declared the club's general manager.
While Toppmoller will surely be delighted about the support, there was further bad news for Bayer as they will be without South American defenders Diego Placente and Juan after picking up injuries.
