Swiss international Tranquillo Barnetta has signed a contract extension with Bayer Leverkusen.
The 21-year-old put pen-to-paper on a two-year extension to his current deal committing himself to the Bundesliga outfit until June 2010.
West Ham are understood to have shown an interest in the midfielder following his impressive performances in the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Bayer chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser says coach Michael Skibbe is also on the verge of a new deal.
Holzhauser told Bild that the former German assistant team coach will be given a chance to continue his rebuilding plans at the BayArena.
"I think that we will tie up a contract extension soon," he said.
