Nurnberg midfielder Jan Polak is facing a month on the sidelines after having an operation to remove his tonsils.
The Czech Republic international has regularly struggled with throat problems and, as antibiotics have not helped rid him of the pain, he has decided to undergo surgery.
Polak will now be sidelined until the New Year as he recovers from the operation.
"He will miss all the remaining action in 2006," said the 25-year-old's agent Pavel Paska.
Losing Polak will come as another major blow to Nurnberg boss Hans Meyer, who was told this week that he could be without Marek Mintal for the rest of the season due to a foot injury.
