The twice-capped Brazil international, who has joined from Sao Caetano, has signed a four-year contract with the Old Lady that will tie him to the side until 2008.
Gilberto believes he has learned from his ill-fated spell with Internazionale in 1999, when he featured just twice in Serie A.
"Back then I was very young and had very different ideas about the world," said the 28-year-old.
"Now I want to show everybody what I am capable of doing. We should think about winning some titles."
Gilberto's confidence should go down well with the Hertha loyals as the team are keen to bring silverware to the refurbished 76,000 capacity Olympiastadium for the first time since the landing the German Championship in 1931.
The gifted left sider was selected to represent Brazil at the Copa America, but is forced to miss the tournament with a knee injury and is not expected to take part in Hertha's training before the end of next week.
