Hertha Berlin have denied that Gilberto could be set for a move back to Brazil.
Hertha Berlin officials have strongly denied that their Brazilian midfield star Gilberto could be set for a move back to his homeland.
The 29-year-old signed for Hertha in the summer of 2004 from Sao Caetano and has become an influential figure, helping the club to a top four finish in Die Bundesliga last season.
Reports from Brazil had suggested that Gremio were on the trail of the player, but Hertha boss Dieter Hoeness says he knows nothing about the move.
"I doubt very much that a club like Gremio are in a position to sign a player like Gilberto." Hoeness said.
"Besides, nobody has contacted us with a view to starting negotiations and Gilberto isn't for sale anyway."
Meanwhile, reports in Berlin have suggested that Hertha are keen on bringing Mexican striker Francisco Fonseca to the Olympiastadion
The Cruz Azul forward is said to be keen on a move to the German capital and has already flown into Berlin for talks.
Hertha are currently fifth in Die Bundesliga, ten points off a UEFA Champions League place.
