The 31-year-old is reportedly entitled to a new one-year contract if he makes a certain number of appearances, but he has featured only once in the Bundesliga so far this season.
However, Preetz is willing to disregard the clause if the former Cameroon international maintains his current level.
"We are very happy about the performances of Marcel in general," Preetz old kicker-Sportmagazin.
"If this happiness continues, then we will definitely sit down and find a solution regarding a new deal."
Ndjeng joined Hertha from Augsburg in 2012 and numbers Fortuna Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach among his former clubs.
