The visitors were in front after 20 minutes when Edin Dzeko, who has been linked with Manchester United and Sunderland, headed home Zvjezdan Misimovic's cross.
Roberto Colautti hit the post early in the second half for Gladbach, who levelled on 79 minutes when Dante nodded home Marko Marin's free-kick.

Dimitar Rangelov put Cottbus ahead two minutes before half-time, only for Bielefeld to equalise on 48 minutes through Vlad Munteanu.
The winner arrived just before the hour mark when Angelov pounced after Ervin Skela's shot had been saved.
Hertha Berlin's title bid took a knock after a 2-0 defeat at
Hannover, who scored through Mike Hanke and Arnold Bruggink.
Hanke headed Hannover in front on 29 minutes and Bruggink completed the job with a neat finish on 62 minutes.
Hoffenheim continue to be in freefall after a 3-0 home defeat by
Bochum, who had Stanislav Sestak's hat-trick to thank for the result.
Sestak opened the scoring on 42 minutes following Shinji Ono's corner and increased the lead 10 minutes after half-time.
Daniel Haas was sent off on 61 minutes for a foul on Sestak, who completed his hat-trick on 69 minutes.

Nevan Subotic's header levelled the game up on 29 minutes before Felipe Santana hit the post for Dortmund two minutes into the second half.
Just two minutes later, Dortmund were ahead through Tamas Hajnal and an 81st minute own goal from Pedro Geromel sealed the win.
