Robert Lewandowski followed up his five-goal midweek bonanza with two more goals on Saturday and an entry in the record books, as Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich won 3-0 at Mainz.

The striker equalled the highest tally of goals from the opening seven games with his double - emulating the great Gerd Muller's 10 for Bayern at the start of the 1968/9 and 1977/8 seasons.

The Pole, who netted five in a crazy nine-minute spell against Wolfsburg on Tuesday night, opened the scoring with a 51st-minute header and rounded the 'keeper for his second after 63 minutes.

They were his 100th and 101st Bundesliga goals, and he celebrated by lifting his jersey to reveal a shirt with the number 100 emblazoned on his chest. In all, he has 27 goals in 37 league appearances for the German champions.

"You always believe you are going to score," said Lewandowski, whose goals gave the Bavarians their seventh straight win in a perfect start to the campaign.

French teenager Kingsley Coman, who claimed an assist for the first, rounded off the scoring after 68 minutes. Thomas Muller struck a penalty over the crossbar after 21 minutes.

Elsewhere, Raffael scored late to seal a 3-1 win for Borussia Monchengladbach at Stuttgart.

Granit Xhaka and a Christian Gentner own goal had put Gladbach 2-0 up and though Daniel Ginczek pulled a goal back for the home side with a penalty, Raffael's breakaway goal at the death sealed Stuttgart's fate.

Bayer Leverkusen won 3-0 at Werder Bremen, goals from Admir Mehmedi, Julian Brandt and Kevin Kampl sealing the points.

Hoffenheim, meanwhile, beat Augsburg 3-1 as Kevin Volland's double - one a penalty - and a Jonathan Schmid strike eclipsed an equaliser from Koo Ja-cheol.

Bottom-of-the-table Hannover collected only their second point of the season after holding Wolfsburg to a 1-1 draw. Hiroshi Kiyotake was the hero, cancelling out an effort from Wolfsburg's Bas Dost.

And in the late game, Schalke drew level on points with second-placed Borussia Dortmund - who do not play until Sunday - with a 1-0 win at Hamburg, Leroy Sane's goal on the hour settling the outcome.
