Wiese assured over spot

Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese has no concerns over losing his status as Germany number two to Ron-Robert Zieler.

Keeper does not expect to fall down pecking order

Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese has no concerns over losing his status as Germany No.2 to Ron-Robert Zieler. Wiese was left on the bench for 90 minutes last Friday as 22-year-old Zieler made his international debut in the friendly against Ukraine. With Manuel Neuer assured of the No.1 jersey in the national team, coach Joachim Low chose to take a look at Zieler in the 3-3 draw. However, Wiese is convinced that the Hannover goalkeeper's appearance was only a one-off. Should Neuer be unable to play at Euro 2012 for whatever reason, Wiese says he fully expects to start.

No doubt

"I am assured of my No.2 role," he told the Kreiszeitung Syke. "There is absolutely no doubt about that." When asked if Zieler could overtake him in the pecking order over the next six months, Wiese said: "I think that's a bit of a joke really. "It (the game) was just to give him a chance to show what he can do." Wiese was due to play the second half, but Low decided that, given the freezing temperatures, it would have been difficult for him to get warmed up during the interval, which is why Zieler emerged for the second half despite conceding three goals in the first 45 minutes.
