Utility man will remain in Germany after signing contract extension

General manager Frank Arnesen has agreed a deal to keep Germany international Marcell Jansen at Hamburg for a further two years. The 26-year-old had been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years, with Liverpool reportedly showing the most interest in the versatile left-sided dead-ball specialist. His current deal was due to expire next summer, sparking fears that Jansen would walk away from the club at the end of next season. But Arnesen has been able to secure the services of a player, who has been capped 36 times for his country, until 2015. "We are happy to announce the new agreement with Marcell Jansen," Arnesen told Bild. "Marcell is now in the position that will enable him to take over a key role in the future of the Hamburger SV first team."
