Zdebel signs new deal

Thomas Zdebel has committed himself to Bochum for a further two years.

VfL Bochum captain Thomas Zdebel has committed himself to the club for a further two years.

The 33-year-old former Polish international midfielder put pen-to-paper on a contract extension at the weekend keeping him at the Ruhr valley club until June 2009.

"We are delighted that we were able to reach an agreement with Thomas," commented Bochum sport director Stefan Kuntz.

"He is a real leader on the pitch and someone who bonds the team together off of it.

"It is great that we can continue planning with him in the squad."

Zdebel joined Bochum from Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi in the summer of 2003 and has made a total of 167 first team appearances for the club.
