Leverkusen set record, while Cacau continues goal-scoring form

League leaders Bayer Leverkusen were held to a goalless stalemate, while Stuttgart, Werder Bremen and Hoffenhein all posted victories in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Cologne frustrated Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Rhine derby at the BayArena. The goalless stalemate sets a new league record of 24 games unbeaten for Leverkusen, but only puts them one point clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table. Bayern have the opportunity to move two points clear at the summit by beating Hamburg on Sunday. Meanwhile, Cacau followed up his goal against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League in midweek with a quick-fire brace to earn Stuttgart a 2-1 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Benjamin Kohler put the visitors ahead in the 39th minute but Cacau equalised a minute later before netting the winner on the stroke of half-time. Hoffenhein ended rock-bottom Hertha Berlin's recent resurgence with a 2-0 victory at the Olympiastadion. Demba Ba opened the scoring ten minutes before the interval, with Vedad Ibisevic netting at the death to make sure of the points.

Home reverse

Ten man Mainz suffered a 2-1 home reverse to Werder Bremen at the Bruchwagstadion. The home side had Florian Heller sent-off in the 13th minute for violent conduct before the visitors took the lead via Tim Borowski on 32 minutes. Aristide Bance netted an equaliser on the stroke of half-time but substitute Sebastian Prodl scored five minutes after the interval to win the game for Thomas Schaaf's side. Fourth-from-bottom Freiburg remain deep in a relegation trouble after a 1-1 draw at Borussia Monchengladback. The strugglers have now gone ten games without a win after Roel Brouwers scored a 72nd minute equaliser following Papiss Cisse's opener 16 minutes earlier. Nurnberg moved up a place to third-from-bottom - two points behind Freiburg - after a goalless stalemate at fellow strugglers Bochum, who are nine points above the drop zone in 13th.
