Coveted Germany international Christian Trasch has turned down a contract extension at Stuttgart.
The versatile right-footed player, who has 12 months left on his current contract, has been linked with Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg in recent weeks.
Stuttgart have attempted to ward off interest by offering the 23-year-old a new five-year deal.
But despite the deal reportedly doubling his wages, Trasch has turned down the offer.
The club's general manager, Fredi Bobic, told
Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper: "It's a fact, the player turned it down quickly.
"We offered Christian Trasch a new deal for five years based on evidently better earnings.
"We have shown our appreciation and our respect towards Christian Trasch with that offer."
But Bobic added the club would continue their efforts to try and get the first-team regular to sign a new deal.
Loan deals
Meanwhile, two Stuttgart youngsters - Patrick Funk and Daniel Didavi - are set to leave the Mercedes-Benz-Arena on loan.
Germany U21-international midfielder Funk, who has been unable to break into the first team on a regular basis, will join St Pauli for the next two seasons for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Stuttgart recently extended Funk's contract by two years until June 2014 and St Pauli do not have an option to buy the player over the duration of the loan.
A club spokesman told
Deutsche Presseagentur: "Patrick Funk has been granted a loan transfer to pick up valuable first-team experience.
"Beforehand we agreed a new contract which will run until June 2014."
Fellow Germany U21-international midfielder Didavi is set to join Nurnberg for the 2011/2012 season for a loan fee of around £250,000, although Nurnberg will also not have a buy-out option on the player.
A Stuttgart spokesman told
BILD: "The contract still needs to be signed, however, there is an agreement in principle regarding a loan move between the clubs now."
Nurnberg general manager Martin Bader added: "We feel it's a good deal. Daniel Didavi will fit right into our style of play and will strengthen our options for the new season."
Didavi, who has also been unable to command a regular first-team starting berth, is currently tied to Stuttgart until June 2012 but is going to extend his deal with the club by another year.
