Ricken in hot water

Lars Ricken will miss the derby with Schalke criticising coach Bert van Marwijk.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Lars Ricken will be forced to watch Sunday's Ruhr Valley derby against Schalke from the stands after criticising coach Bert van Marwijk.

BVB's former UEFA Champions League hero, who has spent most of the current season on the bench under the Dutchman, expressed his frustration after last weekend's defeat at Bremen.

"He (van Marwijk) is not only damaging my career, but he is also damaging the team and the club," fumed Ricken.

Ricken's words have not surprisingly got him into hot water with Dortmund bosses.

"We cannot allow players to go squealing to the press and publicly criticise the club or the coach," sport manager Stefan Reuter told German television.

"I've told Lars in no uncertain terms that his behaviour cannot be accepted and he will, of course, have to face disciplinary action."

Ricken has now been banished to the stands as Dortmund face high-flying local rivals Schalke at the Westfalenstadion on Sunday and will also face a hefty fine.
