Bayern Munich moved eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after a 1-0 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Arturo Vidal scored the only goal of the match in the 20th minute when he headed home Joshua Kimmich's right-wing cross to secure their 11th win in 14 matches in all competitions since the return of Jupp Heynckes as head coach.

In unusual circumstances, the hosts still managed to keep a clean sheet despite a goalkeeping crisis before the game. With number one Manuel Neuer and teenager Christian Fruechtl out, reserve Sven Ulreich was set to start the match but was injured in the warm-up.

That brought 36-year-old Tom Starke, the club's academy goalkeeper coordinator who came out of retirement amid the injury crisis, into the starting line-up for a milestone he had given up on reaching - his 100th Bundesliga appearance.

Meanwhile, pressure continued to pile onto head coach Peter Bosz after Borussia Dortmund fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Werder Bremen.

Bremen were on the front foot and nearly went ahead on two occasions through Zlatko Junuzovic before Maximilian Eggestein curled in a wonderful opener in the 26th minute.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised for the hosts just before the hour-mark when he nodded in from close-range but Theodor Gebre Selassie won it for the visitors with a thumping header from Max Kruse's inswinging corner.

RB Leipzig lost ground on leaders Bayern after they were held to a 2-2 draw against lowly Mainz.

Leipzig took the lead in the 29th minute with a well-worked team goal which was finished off by a great curling effort by Kevin Kampl, but Robin Quaison levelled 10 minutes later after he was the quickest to react to Daniel Brosinski's parried free-kick.

Germany international Timo Werner restored the lead in first-half stoppage-time from the penalty spot to grab his 13th goal for club and country this season.

However, Emil Berggreen earned a share of the spoils for Mainz with a bullet header from Alexandru Maxim's corner three minutes from time.

Hamburg and Wolfsburg played out a goalless draw at the Volksparkstadion while Schalke came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Borrusia Monchengladbach.

Christoph Kramer put Gladbach ahead but an own goal from Jannik Vestergaard saw the points shared.
