Landzaat boost for AZ

AZ Alkmaar captain Denny Landzaat could be available for the Aachen game.

AZ Alkmaar have been boosted by the news that captain Denny Landzaat could be available for their Uefa Cup tie at Alemannia Aachen.

The 28-year-old was suffering from influenza, although the Holland international is now expected to recover sufficiently enough to earn a starting place.

AZ have had a superb season to date, surprising many with their blistering form in De Eredivisie, and Landzaat has been a major influence in their success.

Manager Co Adriaanse was looking to draft in veteran Barry van Galen, although he may be able to rely on his midfield general, who appeared for his country against England in last week's friendly match at Villa Park.

Top scorer Kenneth Perez, however, will not be available to face the German Bundesliga Zwei side, as he has not recovered from influenza in time for the game.

To make up the numbers, Adriaanse has called on 19-year-olds Haris Medunjanin and Ron Vlaar.
