Sparta confirm Nemeth move

Sparta Prague have confirmed that they failed in a bid to sign Szilard Nemeth.

Sparta Prague have confirmed that they failed in a bid to sign Szilard Nemeth from Middlesbrough.

Sparta have admitted that they tried to snap up the striker from Boro before the transfer window closed, but could not agree the terms of a loan move.

"Both sides were close to an agreement," Sparta spokesperson Lenka Rakova told CTK.

"The main problem was the fact that Nemeth had played a part in one Premier League match which affected the plan of a loan to Sparta."

Fifa's rules mean that players cannot appear for more than two teams in any one season - so having already played for Boro, a loan move to Sparta would end the chances of any third party this campaign.

Although a year-long loan may have solved that problem, terms could not be agreed between the two clubs, and now Nemeth will continue to ply his trade well down the pecking order at the Riverside.
