Mainz have turned down a é¼600,000 offer from Cologne for Hanno Balitsch.Mainz have turned down a é¼600,000 offer from newly-promoted Cologne for unsettled Hanno Balitsch and insisted that the midfielder must fulfil his contract at the Stadion am Bruchweg.
Balitsch, who only joined Mainz during the winter transfer window after a disappointing spell with Bayer Leverkusen, has so far failed to live up to expectations and is unhappy about being limited to a fringe-player status under coach Jurgen Klopp.
''The offer was ridiculous,'' declared managing director Christian Heidel.
''Balitsch will have to stay as we don't want to lose a top player to one of our competitors.''
According to press speculation the one-time capped Germany international had already agreed personal terms with Cologne, for whom he played in the 2001/02 campaign and it remains to be seen if the Goats are able to increase their offer in order to lure their former favourite back to the Rhein-Energy-Stadium.
