Jay Bothroyd has been given a new chance to earn himself a move to Germany.Jay Bothroyd has been given a new opportunity to earn himself a move to Die Bundesliga after being handed a trial at Mainz.
The 23-year-old former Coventry City forward has spent the last three weeks on trial with Hertha Berlin.
But Bothroyd, who finished last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, was handicapped by injury problems and failed to win a permanent move.
Mainz's managing director Christian Heidel knows about Bothroyd's struggle for fitness but is confident that the tall striker could make an impact at the Bruchweg Stadium.
Ç£He is not fully fit yet but he is the kind of striker we are looking for,Ç¥ declared Heidel.
Mainz suffered a poor start to the new Bundesliga season, losing their first two games, but look certain to qualify for Uefa Cup football after their 2-0 first-leg win over Icelandic team Keflavik last week.
Bothroyd is currently tied to Italian outfit Perugia but could leave the former Serie A side on a free transfer.
