Bayern Munich pulled eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win over Schalke on Saturday.

The German champions took full advantage of Borussia Dortmund's surprise slip up at Hamburg on Friday night to extend their gap at the top.

David Alaba, Javi Martinez and Thomas Muller scored the goals for the record German champions, who have now won 12 games out of 13 in the Bundesliga this season, drawing the other.

Max Meyer scored the consolation for Schalke, who dropped out of the top six after losing in front of their own fans.

Beneficiaries were Bayer Leverkusen, whose 3-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt saw them move back into the top six after ending a run of three consecutive defeats.

Javier Hernandez was on target twice with Hakan Calhangolu netting the third for the Werkself, who face BATE Borisov in a key Champions League fixture on Tuesday.
