The 25-year-old tore cruciate knee ligaments during last weekend's home victory over fellow strugglers Nurnberg and will almost certainly not be able to return to first team action this season.
The news comes as a bitter blow to coach Hans Meyer's squad, coming just a week after losing Danish international midfielder Peter Nielsen with a broken leg.
On a brighter note, goalkeeper Jorg Stiel could well be back in action sooner than expected after being treated by Bayern's team doctor Hans Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt in Munich.
The 32-year-old Swiss custodian was treated on Monday for severe back pains but could well be in line to play this weekend against Freiburg.
