Jansen blow for Low

Germany coach Joachim Low has lost full-back Marcell Jansen due to injury.

Germany coach Joachim Low has been left with another defensive quandary after losing Marcell Jansen from his squad to play Georgia and Slovakia.

Since taking over from Jurgen Klinsmann after the World Cup, Low has struggled at the back with fitness problems affecting his selections.

Per Mertesacker, Christoph Metzelder, Robert Huth and Jens Nowotny had all already been ruled out of contention as Germany play Georgia in a friendly on Saturday before taking on Slovakia in a Euro 2008 qualifier in midweek.

Now Borussia Monchengladbach's Jansen has had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

As a result right-back Arne Friedrich may be asked to perform in a central role, and Low is looking for those players called into the squad to take their chance and impress.

"There will be a few players who will get a chance to prove themselves - also the newcomers," Low said.

"The important match is in Bratislava. We've got to be top fit for that and go to our limits. The Georgia match is for experimenting."
