Ajax and Feyenoord both recorded 3-1 victories on Sunday to remain locked together at the top of the Eredivisie.
Frank de Boer's Ajax won at Vitesse Arnhem before Feyenoord matched them at home to AZ Alkmaar.
It has been a tough week for Ajax following the news their most famous son, Johan Cruyff, has lung cancer, and it threatened to end on a sour note when Valeri Kazaishvili gave Vitesse a 55th-minute lead.
But Viktor Fischer levelled in the 72nd minute and two minutes later Ajax took the lead through Riechedly Bazoer. Lasse Schone made sure of the points with a late third.
Dirk Kuyt was the hat-trick hero for Feyenoord, who trail their rivals on goal difference.
Kuyt's 14th-minute opener against AZ Alkmaar was cancelled out five minutes later by Joris van Overeem but the former Liverpool striker put Feyenoord back in front on the hour mark and then netted a 78th-minute penalty.
Cambuur Leeuwarden remain without a win after having to settle for yet another draw against ADO Den Haag.
Mike Havenaar's 48th-minute opener for Den Haag was swiftly cancelled out by Furdjel Narsingh as Cambuur drew for the sixth time in 10 matches.
NEC and FC Groningen also drew 1-1, with Christian Santos' penalty just after half-time for NEC cancelling out Albert Rusnak's 10th-minute opener.
