Feyenoord lost ground in the Eredivisie title race after a shock 1-0 loss against ADO Den Haag, while NEC Nijmegen impressed at AZ Alkmaar.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side went into the weekend on a high after a cup win over Ajax, but they now trail their great rivals by three points in the league following the narrow defeat.

The only goal of the game came in the 70th minute when Sven van Beek put through his own net, and Den Haag hung on despite having Edouard Duplan sent off.

NEC Nijmegen climbed to sixth place with an impressive 4-2 away victory at AZ Alkmaar.

All the goals came in a glut either side of half-time. Anthony Limbombe opened the scoring on the half-hour mark and, although Markus Henriksen quickly equalised, Christian Santos restored the lead straight away.

The game was over in the 58th minute when Limbombe added to a strike from Lucas Woudenberg to make it 4-1, and AZ could not build on Henriksen's second in the 67th minute.

FC Utrecht won by the same scoreline against FC Twente, who took a 19th-minute lead through Thomas Agyepong.

Timo Letschert and Sean Klaiber turned things around only for Hakim Ziyech to equalise four minutes before the break.

But Nacer Barazite restored Utrecht's lead in the 65th minute and Sebastien Haller made sure of the points with a late penalty.

The Frisian derby went the way of Heerenveen as they defeated winless Cambuur Leeuwarden 2-0 to pull clear of the bottom three.

The visitors made a bad start when Wessel Dammers netted an own goal after only five minutes, with Mitchell te Vrede scoring the second from the penalty spot 10 minutes before half-time.
