Nicolai Jorgensen netted a brace as Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord thrashed city rivals Sparta Rotterdam 6-1 at De Kuip.

Tonny Vilhena put the hosts 1-0 up in the 24th minute with a superb strike, Jens Toornstra doubled the advantage by firing in an even more spectacular effort just before the break, and Jorgensen then netted twice in quick succession around the hour mark.

Eric Botteghin subsequently added a header, and after Thomas Verhaar pulled a goal back for Sparta, Eljero Elia notched Feyenoord's sixth in stoppage time.

Back to being level on points with Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men - although now with a goal difference that is inferior to the leaders' by six - are second-placed Ajax, who beat Groningen 2-0 at home after Feyenoord's match had finished.

Davinson Sanchez headed the home side in front in the ninth minute and the second goal came via a 72nd-minute penalty from Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech then failed to convert another spot-kick eight minutes later, seeing his effort from 12 yards saved by Sergio Padt.

Sunday's other games saw FC Twente draw 0-0 at Willem II and Utrecht win 2-0 at Den Haag, who ended the contest with 10 men.
