PSV Eindhoven closed the gap on Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord and Ajax to just three points with a 1-0 home win over Go Ahead Eagles.

Substitute Siem de Jong swept the ball in at the far post on 68 minutes, having only just been sent on by PSV manager Phillip Cocu.

Feyenoord are away at AZ Alkmaar on Sunday, while Ajax travel to FC Twente when both teams will be out to restore their advantage at the top of the table.

NEC Nijmegen ran out 3-0 winners over Den Haag at the Goffertstadion. French forward Kevin Mayi put the home side ahead on 10 minutes with a curling effort into the top right corner, before an own goal from Den Haag defender Tyronne Ebuehi doubled their lead just two minutes later.

Midfielder Mohammed Rayhi slid in a third just before half-time as NEC moved into 11th place.

Fourth-placed Heerenveen came from behind to beat Excelsior 2-1 with a second-half brace from Swedish forward Sam Larsson. Nigel Hasselbaink put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot two minutes before half-time.

Larsson reduced the deficit just three minutes into the second half when he swept in a cross from the right.

With 11 minutes left, Larsson floated in a deep free-kick from the left, which bounced through a crowded penalty area and into the far corner past Excelsior keeper Tom Muyters.

The game between Zwolle and Willem II finished goalless.
