Heerenveen have confirmed the signing of Real Madrid teenager Martin Odegaard on an 18-month loan.

The Norway international has failed to make a breakthrough at the Bernabeu since becoming Real's youngest player at the age of 16 years and 157 days in 2015.

Odegaard had made his Norway debut before turning 16 in late 2014 before joining Real from Stromsgodset.

But since then, he has been restricted in the main to playing for Real's second string - Castilla - with his sole first-team appearance this season coming in the Copa del Rey against Cultural Leonesa.

Odegaard was linked with loan moves to a number of clubs, including French side Rennes whose manager Christian Gourcuff had a late change of heart and said he was not ready for regular first-team football.
