Sinouh on the sidelines

Boy Waterman seems set to play a prominent role for AZ Alkmaar.

Boy Waterman seems set to play a prominent role for AZ Alkmaar after keeping rival Khalid Sinouh picked up yet another injury.

Waterman arrived at AZ on loan from Heerenveen in order to provide competition for Sinouh.

However, Sinouh damaged a thigh against Willem II and he is set for a spell on the sidelines.

"I had a look at his dark brown eyes and they were very sad," said AZ Alkmaar coach Louis van Gaal.

"He feels the pressure of Waterman, but he is professional enough to indicate that he could not carry on."

AZ have problems ahead of their Uefa Cup clash with Fenerbahce.

Georgian striker Shota Arveladze has not made the trip to Turkey after being struck down with flu, while Stijn Schaars, Joey Didulica and Simon Cziommer are injured and David Mendes da Silva and Barry Opdam suspended.
