Mario Been has called on Feyenoord to play 'relegation football', but is confident his side will not go down.
Struggling Feyenoord are currently third-bottom of the Eredivisie having already suffered eight defeats this season.
The Rotterdam club slipped into the drop zone following Sunday's 2-0 loss at FC Groningen as their miserable campaign continued.
However, while admitting his side are in a tough position, Been is certain they will ride out the rough patch and stay up this term.
"The position is unworthy of Feyenoord but this is the reality," Been told the club's official website.
"We have to play relegation football. Most of the guys in the team who played for the A team last year were winning matches but now they are finding themselves in a different situation.
"We miss leaders in the team and the injuries we have have contributed to the situation we are in. But I am sure that when those experienced players return we can again see Feyenoord on the rise.
"This squad has too much quality to be at the bottom of the table. Therefore I am sure we will stay up, Feyenoord could never be relegated.''
Feyenoord captain Ron Vlaar admits the players need to up their game following another gloomy away day at Euroborg.
"The pressure will now come,'' Vlaar told NUsport.
"We'll really have to win matches. At times we played some good football but it happens too often that our heads go down when things go against us. If we fall behind it should not mean the game is over.''
