Midfielder urges Amsterdammers to bounce back

Ajax midfielder Demy de Zeeuw is hoping his side can turn around their slump in form at VVV Venlo on Sunday. The Amsterdam club will travel to second-bottom Venlo in the Eredivisie still hurting from their 4-0 home thrashing at the hands of Real Madrid on Tuesday, which confirmed their elimination from the UEFA Champions League group stage. De Zeeuw's side are also three games without a win in the Dutch top flight, and have received an unwelcome blow this week with the confirmation of a seven-game ban for star striker Luis Suarez after he bit an opponent last weekend. Midfielder De Zeeuw is aware Ajax must start bringing in the points regularly if they want to contend for the title this year, and hopes the Dutch giants can emulate their display in last season's corresponding fixture, when they won 4-0. "Last year we did it well and we won," De Zeeuw told Fifa's official website. "We must do so again this year." De Zeeuw feels Venlo will be weakened by the absence of Japan star Keisuke Honda, who appeared against the capital club last term but has since departed for CSKA Moscow. He added on the club's official website: "VVV with or without a Honda is a world of difference."
