Ajax lost their second Eredivisie game in four days as Aron Johannsson's second-half strike earned AZ Alkmaar a 1-0 victory at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Ajax lost 1-0 at Vitesse Arnhem on Sunday and were defeated by the same scoreline on Thursday as Johannsson's 76th-minute strike earned AZ all three points.

Frank de Boer's night was made considerably worse by centre-back Niklas Moisander's dismissal after an hour's play.

The defeat means Ajax still trail runaway leaders PSV Eindhoven by 12 points with 13 rounds left to play.

Elsewhere, Tjaronn Chery scored with two minutes left to earn FC Groningen a 2-2 draw at Heracles Almelo.

Heracles took the lead seven minutes before half-time through Brahim Darri, but Groningen were on level terms when Michael De Leeuw scored in the 66th minute.

Wout Weghorst restored Heracles' lead nine minutes later and it looked like the hosts would earn victory before Chery scored at the death to rescue a point for Groningen.

The draw sees Groningen move up to eighth in the standings, while Heracles remain in the relegation zone.
