AZ Alkmaar have gone top of De Eredivisie with a 2-0 win at RBC Roosendaal.AZ Alkmaar have gone top of De Eredivisie with a 2-0 win at bottom club RBC Roosendaal.
The result, coupled with PSV Eindhoven's surprise 2-0 home defeat to Roda JC Kerkrade, means Co Adriaanse's side are top with a better goals scored tally than PSV.
AZ recovered from their midweek Uefa Cup defeat to Grazer AK in Austria when Robin Nelisse gave the visitors the lead on 24 minutes.
Denny Landzaat (pictured) made sure AZ took the three points from De Luiten, but even they would not have expected to top of the table, with PSV hosting Roda on Saturday.
However, the Kerkrade club did AZ a favour by taking advantage of Alex's sending off for violent conduct two minutes before the break.
They dealt Guus Hiddink's side a further blow when Laszlo Bodnar scored for Roda on the stroke of half time.
Sergio then sealed the points for the visitors with a second goal with 10 minutes remaining, as PSV come off De Eredivisie summit with the defeat.
In the later kick-off on Saturday, RKC Waalwijk moved up the table with a 1-0 home win over Willem II.
Rick Hoogendorp's late strike gave RKC all three points at the Mandemakers Stadion.
