PSV took control early on through Korean star Park Ji-sung.
Captain Mark van Bommel (pictured) added a second just before the half hour mark and Park grabbed another just before the interval.
The expected second half onslaught never arrived, but PSV did register once more when Brazilian centre back Alex pounced just two minutes from time.
Second placed AZ Alkmaar made sure the gap at the top remained at four points after they beat De Graafschap 3-2, but only after an early scare.
Magno Morcelin (25) gave the visitors the lead at The Almaarder Hout, but two goals just before the interval from Dutch internationals Jan Kromkamp (40) and Denny Lendzaat gave AZ the lead.
Moroccan Ali Elkhattabi added a third for AZ 20 minutes from time and that proved crucial as Magno added another in the final minute for De Graafschap.
AZ's win means they are still four points ahead of champions Ajax who won 1-0 at NEC Nijmegen.
Starlet Hedwiges Maduro grabbed the only goal of the game after 51 minutes.
Feyenoord eased clear in fourth after a 4-1 victory over Roda JC Kerkrade at De Kuip.
Shinji Ono fired Feyenoord ahead after just six minutes and winger wizard Romeo Castelen doubled the lead less than 20 minutes later.
Highly-rated Roda striker Arouna Kone pulled one back just after the interval, but a Dirk Kuyt (69) penalty and a Salomon Kalou (84) strike made sure of victory.
Utrecht suffered a surprise 2-1 home loss to FC Groningen.
Former Manchester United starlet Erik Nevland was for hero for Groningen as his two goals (9 & 42) sandwiched a Tim Cornelisse effort (18) and that was enough to seal all three points.
