Ajax boosted their hopes of clinching second place with a 4-2 win over AZ.Ajax boosted their hopes of clinching second place but effectively handed the title to bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven with a 4-2 win over AZ Alkmaar.
AZ have been giving chase to PSV for much of the season and knew victory at Ajax was vital if they were to keep up the pressure.
However, they came up short as Ajax turned on the style at the Amsterdam ArenA.
Nigel de Jong opened the scoring for Ajax on 34 minutes, but AZ were level shortly afterwards as Robin Nelisse silenced the home crowd.
De Jong ensured Ajax were in front at the break as he popped up on 43 minutes.
Ajax took control after the break and goals by Wesley Sneijder and Steve Pienaar extended their lead and deemed Tarik Sektioui's a mere consolation.
Feyenoord kept up the pressure in the race for second place with a 2-0 win at NAC Breda.
Ruud Gullit's side have been dogged by inconsistency this term but they were at their best on Sunday as they proved too good for NAC.
NAC proved stubborn opponents but Salomon Kalou opened the door with a strike on 42 minutes.
