AZ Alkmaar have dropped out of the race for two players.AZ Alkmaar have dropped out of the race for Klass-Jan Huntelaar and David Mendes.
AZ are furious at the prices being demanded for the pair - with Heerenveen's Huntelaar and Mendes of NAC Breda both priced out of the Alkmaar club's plans.
"Unreal, abnormal amounts," confirmed director of football Martin van Geel. "And there we drop out.
"We wouldn't even consider paying it - it is beyond the market value and they will soon find that out.
"Apparently the clubs think we have the budget of a top club. We only have around é¼14 million which is tens of millions less than Ajax or PSV."
The club have been linked with some top names - including Newcastle's Patrick Kluivert and Edgar Davids - but van Geel pointed out that this was not practical.
"It's not possible for a club like AZ. They would not fit into our wage structure.
"But we do have something to offer; European football, good attacking football, good salaries, and, with Louis van Gaal, an appealing trainer."
