The 33-year-old has established himself as the undoubted number one at AZ, and played a key role in their fine efforts both domestically and in Europe last season.
Timmer's present deal runs until the summer of 2007, but the club are keen to reward him for his consistency with an improved contract.
The keeper has indicated that he wants to finish his career at AZ and the signs are positive that an accord will be reached in the near future.
AZ are keen to secure the long term futures of a number of key players and have offered new deals to Denny Landzaat and Barry Opdam.
Both have two years to run on their present commitments and have stated they will wait until later in the season before making decisions on their futures.
