AZ Alkmaar defender Barry Opdam claims that Feyenoord tried to sign him last summer.
It is understood that AZ turned down a é¼3 million (£2 million) bid for the Holland international, although it remains to be seen whether they are still keen on him.
Opdam, who is currently mulling over the possibility of extending his present contract, was himself unsure of whether or not a move to Feyenoord would have served his best interests as they see him as the solution to their problematic left back position.
But the 30-year-old has been employed on the left side of central defence in the Holland team and he was concerned that a switch to the flank might have hampered his chances of making the World Cup finals.
"I am happy here," he said, "there will soon be a new stadium and thanks to the vision of Louis van Gaal a certain attraction has been created.
"Kenneth Perez will leave [for Ajax] but Joey Gudjonsson will come and last season we signed Shota Arveladze.
"Years ago such players would not even have considered signing for AZ.
"On the other hand, I am 30-years-old, so if I want to play somewhere else this could be the time.
"Therefore I want to postpone my decision about a possible contract extension for a little longer."
